Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Advertising Partners Data Usage

We use Google AdSense to serve ads on our website. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our sites and/or other sites on the Internet.

Please learn more about how Google uses data when you use our partners’ sites or apps by visiting the official Google Privacy & Terms page: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Newsletter and email subscription

If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address, your name if you enter it, and the IP address, date and time of your sign-up, which we keep as a record of your consent. Your subscription is only activated after you click the link in the confirmation email we send you, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.

Our emails contain a tracking pixel and redirected links, and we set a cookie in your browser, so that we can see which emails are opened and which articles our readers find useful. This is used only to improve our own content, never for advertising. If you prefer not to be tracked, you can block remote images in your email program, block cookies in your browser, or unsubscribe.

Our newsletter runs on the MailPoet plugin, and emails are delivered by the MailPoet Sending Service, operated by Automattic Inc. in the United States. Your data is therefore transferred outside the European Economic Area, under the safeguards permitted by the GDPR. Their privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/. We never sell, rent or share your email address for anyone else’s marketing.

We keep your subscriber data for as long as you stay subscribed, and a minimal record after you unsubscribe so that we do not contact you again. Every email has an unsubscribe link and a “manage your subscription” link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. You can also ask us to send you a copy of your data or to delete it, using the contact details at the end of this policy.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
